At Northampton Aerials we are always looking for a special type of person to join our existing installation team. Check out the opportunities below or email us your CV if you believe you have what it takes to make it with Northampton Aerials.

The Work
Installation engineers install, repair and replace aerial and satellite systems in commercial and domestic premises.

Work may involve designing and installing a new system, upgrading an existing installation or fault finding, diagnosing and repairing existing systems.

Typical duties include:

  • carrying out site surveys as a basis for quotes
  • planning the cabling and distribution network
  • installing and fixing aerials or satellite dishes to mounts
  • connecting signal outlet sockets
  • checking received signal levels
  • Testing equipment and rectifying faults.

Engineers use a variety of equipment including wiring tools, drills, and signal quality and strength meters. On complex installations they may have to work to detailed plans and drawings. Much of the work will be at heights, working on roofs, ladders or scaffolding.

Hours and Environment
Engineers work between 40 and 45 hours a week but with variable shifts, some nights away are required. Engineers may be on-call to cover off-peak hours and emergencies.

Some work such as aerial, dish or pole installation requires daylight hours and includes working at heights in all weathers.

Technicians travel from site to site, so a driving licence is essential.

Health and Safety / CSCS
All engineers are required to take the CSCS Health and Safety course and the C.A.I. Working at height health and safety course.

Skills and Interests
To be an Installation Engineer you need:

  • an understanding of analogue and digital technologies
  • good practical skills
  • good numeric skills for technical calculations and costing
  • an appreciation of how environmental and physical factors affect signal strength
  • good communication and customer care skills

  • good physical fitness
  • a willingness to keep track of new developments
  • An understanding of safe working practices.
